A Trip to Planet Raw

Since we hauled our bikes all the way from Colorado, we wanted to take one day to just ride the Pacific Coast Highway.

There is a helmet law in California so this is a rare sight.. Jeff in a helmet!

The pier in the background.. this is the beach we spent most of our days on.  Incredible surfing for all levels… Loved it!

I love my bike!

We searched out where we could get something unique and different, that we can’t really find in Colorado and decided on Planet Raw.  It’s a raw food restaurant.  Amazing!  I didn’t realize it at the time but I’ve read the book by the founder/chef.

It’s always amazing for me to go into a restaurant and have so many choices!  Incredible. I’m looking a little weary here.  We thought it would take us much less time than it actually did.  I was really hungry since I was expecting to be there for lunch and we got there at about 3:30 pm.  Need food…  lotsa food!

They recommend eating dessert first!  It’s helps with digestion.  No complaints from me.  As my grandmother used to say, “Life is short! Eat dessert first!”  I’m on board.  This was their raw cheese cake.   Amazing.

And this was a basil pesto dish with kelp noodles.  So creamy and delicious and full of flavor.  I never would have guessed this was raw by tasting it.

On the left is a deep dish pizza and on the right is their sushi.  Both incredible… Like, to die for incredible!!

Closer picture of the sushi…

And the pizza.  Not really what I think of when I think of pizza but so delicious.

Jeff here – yes, this was a fun, but exhausting little ride up PCH.  I wonder how many Harley riders are vegan…I’ll bet not many.  This restaurant and Mary’s Secret Garden in Ventura (where we went on our last trip to California) both blew me away with their inventive use of raw foods to create textures and tastes you would think only possible via cooking.  Places like these really expand my mind and open me up to new ways of thinking about food, in general.  Plus, they make it possible for people like us to go out,  have choices, and enjoy the experience of restaurant dining without fear of tummy problems later!
